Styles like Bermuda shorts, utility shirts, neutral tones, and printed short-sleeve shirts will be going to dominate in 2022.

From Paris to Milan, the greater public and the attendees showed up in their Sunday best to the men’s 2022 fashion runway shows. Today let’s analyze some of the top apparel and footwear trends from 2022 fashion shows that caught the eyes and are most likely to remain dominant throughout the year.

1.    Bermuda Shorts

Sitting as the third most-stocked shape currently, the mass market is already awash with this silhouette. Bermuda Shorts are also ranked above chinos and cargos. While these shorts were predominately seen in tailored and innovative looks by attendees outside fashion shows, certain loose-fitting styles with drawstring waists have also gained a broader appeal. The shapes have seen recent success at retailers like Pull&Bear and Bershka.

The Bermuda short’s affinity to surf and sports themes make it a vacation essential for next summer, emerging as the most dominant short shape in the 2022 runway shows. From Phillip Plein’s basketball knee-length style to MSGM’s board-short design offering, loose and relaxed fits are a must for you to invest in.

2.    Utility Shirts

The influence of functionality has continued to grow thanks to outdoor and hiking themes that exploded during 2021. Over 30% of Zara’s Spring 2021 co-ord mix featured utility-style outerwear, with double breast pockets and rough, canvas-like fabrics nodding to the trend.

EDITED identified utility shirts as a spotlighted product within email communications in February, seeing a 58% increase for 2021. Fashion show attendees strongly backed the trend, from cargo shorts and pants to utilitarian shirts and jackets. Utility shirts gave even minimal shapes the practical update with pockets and technical zip details.

3.    Neutral Tones

With the growth of loungewear, neutral tones have aligned with cozy shapes. This pushed fashion retailers to double their assortment of hoodies in soft tones, while blacks fell out of favor. The color was noted within preppy themes, showing a significant increase in polo shirt arrivals. This is a basic top shape from 2022 runway shows.

Neutral tones are a core color palette for following season lines, fitting into the new uniform themes as workwear styles become more relaxed. A loose tailoring range set neutral hues at Tod’s and saw utility influences, like four breast pockets on matching jackets and shirts.

4.    Printed Short-Sleeve Shirts

Men have become interested in retro 70’s prints. The 64% geometric print seen on new shirts is a nostalgic fashion story that builds momentum. The trend-led men favor boxier fits. Stüssy backed the trend for its Summer ’22 range by debuting a summer-inspired boxy vacation shirt that features an all-over orange pop print.

Printed shirts stand within the season’s primary vacation-ready themes, as regular travel is set to resume in 2022. While MSGM went for more vibrant printed graphics, Paul Smith’s fashion arranged bold sunflowers against a mix of pastel hues.

5.    Bucket Hats

Bucket Hats propelled into mainstream men’s fashion due to the rising interest in nostalgia and board culture. With influencer backing and designs suitable for fall assortments, the bucket hat has cemented itself as a year-round accessory for 2022.

The H&M checks and animal prints perform well, while neutral and black shades are a top mover. Street-style influencers favored tie-up bucket hats at Mr. Saturday and NUMERO 00.
